As the increasing instability of living environments forces people away from their homes, due to war, violence, natural disasters, economic and social distress, and environmental changes, the number of displaced and homeless individuals and refugees is growing at an alarming rate.
While many of the important changes that could be made to address the factors contributing to the perpetuation of this crisis relate to broader scales of action and reach, All Seasons Protective Aid is a project that was developed with the intention of providing a level of support and safety in a rapid, economical, and accessible manner.
ASPA is a 2 layer recycled textile product that can be used as a protective cover or matting, and as an insulating barrier from the elements. The system allows for a variety of different configurations that can aid in creating more comfortable living or sleeping conditions in a wide range of environments and emergency situations. It features chambers that can be filled to adjust its level of thermal insulation through the use of found or recycled local materials as stuffing, such as dry grass, hay, leaves, moss, paper, packaging, cardboard, newspapers, clothing, wool and similar fibers, allowing for a lighter, more economical, and easier to distribute product.
