ornament and design

The relationship between design and aesthetic, function and form, has always been a matter of discussion and of importance within the design community.

While in some instances aesthetic choices are justifiable by the designer’s logic, in other cases we find the presence of what can be defined as ‘ornament’, a decorative and generally unstructural feature, added with the aim of enhancing a product’s overall aesthetic, but not necessarily its function.

Ornament can greatly influence the resources necessary for the production and distribution of a product, as well as its functionality and price.

The aim of this workshop is to achieve an awareness of the relationship between products and ornament through a physical interaction with an object.
