radici workshop

Radici: connessioni primitive tra arte e natura, Roots: primitive connections between art and nature, was an immersive overnight workshop organised and co-ordinated by us, Flavio del Santo, and Jennifer Taufer.

10 artists of multi-disclipinary backgrounds including sculpture, photography, printmaking, filmmaking, drawing, and more, participated in an excursion into the woods of the Apuane in Italy with basic amenities, to experience together activities informed by the natural surroundings.

Drawing on the immediate resources of the area, together we sculpted with locally sourced clay to be fired using our campfire, carved and constructed with found juniper, chestnut and hornbeam, wove with sprawling ivy, resulting in a site specific series of works and experiments.

Taking advantage of the lack of human presence in the mountains, we organised a 'night walk', where a prolonged experience of complete darkness was experienced with hope of stimulating and awakening lesser active senses, deepening the connection with the land and its creatures.
